Soil and Water Outcomes Fund

Soil and Water Outcomes Fund,19 pays farmers for implementing net new regenerative agriculture practices that generate verifiable carbon reduction and water quality improvement outcomes. The Fund sells these outcomes as carbon credits and water quality credits to companies for use as insets (when farmers are in their supply chain). The Fund may also sell the water quality credits to public agencies that use the verified outcomes to meet their federal, state, or local water permit or regulatory requirements. This is one of the few proven examples of “credit stacking,” whereby a single project generates financial value from multiple environmental outcomes, highlighting the synergies between carbon and water finance.
